The Elizabrary, or If I Ruled the World

So there have been many questions, just what is this "Elizabrary"? Well, on this site I use it as my psuedonym. But in reality (or more like in my fantasy) it is my imaginary library that I run exactly the way I want. First of all, Ruby would be at work with me every single day. This would make my days go much better and Ruby would be happier because she wouldn't have to be away from me for long periods of time. At the Elizabrary Ruby would wear a dog backpack that I would load books into so that she could take them to the checkout desk to be put on hold for people. She would also be able to lead people to different areas of the library, like the Mystery section or the restrooms. Wouldn't that be the best? Patrons would also be allowed to bring their dogs in with them. We would have special programs for people and their dogs. Maybe a reading group, where we only read books with dogs in them. When we had our discussions we would bring our dogs and there would be treats for them, as well as treats for the humans. We could make "dogtinis" for a special Christmas party. Dogtinis are a special dog drink that I read about in a dog cookbook. I have never made them for Ruby- yet!

But I digress. I get really excited when I discuss the dog aspect of the Elizabrary. The Elizabrary would only have books, no a-v stuff. People could continue to go to the public library for that. And you would have to submit an application to be able to checkout books from the Elizabrary. There would be an extensive background check and if you have any bad library credit anywhere, sorry, you are not right for membership in the Elizabrary. (more to come about this topic, but must stop now!)

Before Life Took a Toll

Hey look- here's me when I first started working at the library I work at now. Wasn't I young and thin, not to mention naive? Before John McCain addressed a crowd as "My fellow prisoners", which kind of makes me afraid of living in this country. I was like, OMG I'm working at a LIBRARY! I have my MLS. Life doesn't get any better! Well, it's five years later, and if you've seen me in person you know what a pipe dream that was! But someday we will have the Elizabrary, and I might look like this again, only with better hair and glasses! And Ruby!

P.S. On Monday I will receive my 5 year service pin. Whoo Hoo!!!! I will take a pic of me wearing it and post it so you can all gaze jealously at it!
